Kastania

At 750 meters altitude, this is the highest and most remote of the Bardounochoria, a group of villages north of Mani or in northern Mani (there is disagreement about which) in the region of the castle of Bardounia in Agios Nikolaos. Near the mountain peak on the slope where today's village is, there used to be a Byzantine castle that must have been completely destroyed by the Turks in 1481.
