The northernmost of the Tourkobardounochoria—a group of villages north of Mani or in northern Mani (there is disagreement about which) that were conquered by Turks but also inhabited by Greeks. The central village church is dedicated to Saint Nicholas (Agios Nikolaos), and the church of Saint George (Agios Georgios) is just outside the village. There are natural springs in the area, the main one being Mangania.
