One of the Tourkobardounochoria in the area—a group of villages north of Mani or in northern Mani (there is disagreement about which) that were conquered by Turks but also inhabited by Greeks. We can see the first school of the region in this village. Open in 1843, it was founded by the 1821 Independence War fighter, Panagiotis Giatrakos.
