Chestnut Festival

October is the month for harvesting chestnuts. So at the end of this month, Kastanitsa, Arkadia awaits you all at its CHESTNUT FESTIVAL.

In 1983 this celebration took place for the first time. Several decades later, with great effort and taste, the organizers have managed to gain distinction for the Chestnut Festival as one of the country's most important agricultural and cultural events, as well as an institution that has revitalized Kastanitsa.

Starting on the morning of the first day, volunteers receive guests by offering tea to welcome them. During the celebration, everyone will be able to enjoy traditional local dishes such as “married” bean soup, boiled goat, traditional handmade pies, and other dishes and sweets featuring chestnuts (pork with chestnut, syrupy chestnut cake, and Greek sweet bread with chestnuts, etc.). Of course, boiled and baked chestnuts will be honored with a sweet wine and tsipouro, and accompanied by traditional music.

The festival will include events such as presentations related to chestnuts, games for children, and traditional dances by dance clubs of cultural associations accompanied by traditional local music.

During the day it will be possible to visit the new gem of the village, the exhibition of traditional trades at the Information Center of the Management Body of Mount Parnon and Moustos Wetland, as well as the medieval castle and the patron saint's church, the church of the Transfiguration of the Savior. Visitors can also wander through the picturesque lanes of the village.

The Chestnut Festival is organized by the Educational and Naturalist Club of Kastanitsans, with the assistance of the Region of Peloponnese, the Municipality of North Kynouria, and the Management Body of Mount Parnon and Moustos Wetlands.
