How to Get There
There are three ways to reach the bridge of Domokos:
The first is from the village of Vidiaki (about 3 kilometers north). However, the paths from the village have not been maintained, and access is particularly difficult without someone who knows the area (a type of person now hard to find).
The second is a little longer, starting from the small settlement of Petas, near Paraloggi. However, here we will face the same problems.
The third alternative is the best, and it is the route we took. On the D111 road, pass Tripotama and Lampeia (Divris), then turn left at the intersection 6 kilometers from Lampeia, toward the prefecture of Ilia (Elis) and Koumanis.
About 2 kilometers from the intersection, we will come to a point where there are two dirt roads heading off to the right and left that are perpendicular to the road we are on. We will turn left here, but we will not go on the road that heads straight ahead after we turn. Rather, we will keep turning left (almost going in a circle) onto a smaller dirt road that starts by heading back the way we came.
This is not a good road, and we will need a 4x4 vehicle at some points. We will take the second right turn and proceed to the end of that road -- about 2,200 meters – where there is room to turn around. Here, our hike and descent to the Erymanthos River will begin.
Theoretically, there is a path (part of which we find along the way), but basically we head south and downhill, keeping the high slope with its dense vegetation on our right. We avoid the plants as much as possible by moving to the edges of the vegetation. After 1,000 to 1,200 meters, we will reach the shores of the beautiful Erymanthos River. From this point on, we head to the right, parallel to the river (but higher up). After about 400 meters, we will see the beautiful stone bridge of Domokos, which impressively joins the two banks of the Erymanthos.
A landscape of great natural beauty will compensate us for the tiring ascent that awaits us on our return trip! Our ascent will cover an altitude difference of about 270 meters from the bridge and will take 45 to 60 minutes.
