One of the most renowned monasteries in the Peloponnese, this is dedicated to the Dormition of the Virgin Mary. (The myrrh scented icon is the work of the Apostle Luke.) The monastery is mentioned in the golden bull (decree) of Palaiologos in 1320, but its cathedral was built in 1616.
