Thira

The Municipal Community of Thira has 1,857 inhabitants, according to the 2011 census. Its capital and main settlement is the town of Thira (Fira), and it also includes Exo Gialos, Exo Katikies, Mesa Katikies, Nea Kameni, Palea Kameni, Fira Bay, and the islets of Aspronisi, Askania, Eschati, and Christiani. Fira is built on the edge of the caldera at an altitude of about 250 meters, with a spectacular view of the volcano and the caldera and good tourist infrastructure. For these reasons, it welcomes many visitors from all over the world every day.
