The Municipal Community of Episkopi Gonias (or Mesa Gonia) is located on the northern slopes of the Prophet Elias mountain, 6 kilometers from Fira. According to the 2011 census, it has 1,462 permanent residents. It consists of the settlement of Episkopi Gonias as well as Kamari. The village of Episkopi Gonias suffered extensive damage in the earthquake of 1956, which is why the inhabitants abandoned it and settled on the coast, where the current settlement of Kamari was built. The village was known for its wine production and has had wineries since the old days. Kamari is one of the most popular beaches on the island, attracting thousands of tourists each summer since it is a wonderful beach with everything tourists need.
