Velimachi is a beautiful mountain village in a lush environment with many springs. In its ravines we will find dilapidated watermills. The following sites stand out: the central paved square, the monument to the fallen heroes, the historic well-preserved school (Scholarcheio) of 1868, and the guesthouse of the Velimachiton Association. The village is proud to be the homeland of 1896 Olympic rope climbing champion Nikolaos Andriakopoulos. Historically, it is a large post-Byzantine village that was built before 1550, as recorded in the Ottoman records TT560 and TT80. Velimachi is also the name of a community in the municipal unit of Kontovazaina that consists of the settlements of Velimachi, Soudeli, Aposkia, and Tsoureika.
