Kouteli

Community of the Municipal District of Kalavryta made up of Kouteli and Palia Kouteli. Kouteli is the new village that was created during the 1970's by the residents of Palia (old) Kouteli that is today deserted and is situated 2km west of the newer village in a more alpine area. The village has good and large open spaces, mainly its square with the basketball court and the imposing Church of Faneromeni. High above the village at 1,330 metres towers the peak of Profitis Ilias with the homonymous little church and very beautiful view towards the village and the Kalavryta plain. Two kilometres west of new Kouteli and 120 metres higher is located the old village, today deserted and deep within the thick undergrowth. Most of the houses are in ruins and one of the few remaining still standing is the splendid Church of the Dormition (built in 1877).
