The Municipal Unit of Oia is an administrative section of Santorini that consists of the Municipal Community of Thirasia and the Local Community of Oia. According to the 2011 census, it has a total of 1,545 inhabitants. Its capital is the village of Oia (or Apano Meria or Ano Meria) at the northern end of the island, 11 kilometers northwest of Fira at an altitude of 121 meters. Oia is one of the best-known destinations worldwide for its rare beauty and unique views of the sunset.
