The Muncipality of Smynos joined the new Municipality of East Mani in Lakonia under the Kallikratis Program. The new Municipal Unit of Smynos is located in the northern part of the Mani peninsula, with its seat in Agios Nikolaos. It consists of 10 communities, with a total area of 60.5 square kilometers and a population of 1192 (2011).
