Petritsi

The Municipal Unit of Petritsi is one of the six municipal units that make up the Municipality of Sintiki, the largest municipality in the prefecture of Serres. The Municipal Unit extends along the Greek-Bulgarian border and north of Lake Kerkini. It includes many beautiful villages and points of interest to visitors, such as the town of Sidirokastro, the Promachonas or Bastion border checkpoint, the bridge over the Strymonas River in Vyroneia, and the Monastery of Saint John the Baptist (or Timios Prodromos, also called the Women's Hermitage or Convent of Saint John the Baptist) in Akritochori.
